10 Horror Movie Wishes That Went HORRIBLY Wrong
8. Wish Upon
This one hits where it hurts. Clearly the makers of 2017 bore-fest Wish Upon knew that the surest way to signal all is not well is to go for the defenceless pet. Can't directors just leave the dogs alone? But they needed something to hook viewers in because nothing else about this movie was going to do it.
When Claire's father is out dumpster diving he comes across a Chinese music box which he gives to Claire as a birthday present, "here, honey. I got you some trash. Don't worry, I spit-wiped off the rat pee". But obviously it's not just any old music box, this one has the power to grant wishes - at a cost.
Claire wishes for Darcie - the school bully - to rot. And that's pretty much what happens as Darcie contracts necrotising fasciitus and the flesh-eating bug eats its way through her.
But Claire's wish comes with a huge price tag in the form of her dog Max. Max dies in the crawlspace under the house as he is eaten alive by rats. Not cool. Just... not cool.
