10 Horror Movies Actors Want Us To Forget
7. Brad Pitt: Cutting Class (1989)
Brad Pitt has done it all and is perhaps one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. One can't help but look at his impressive filmography and mutter "Oh yeah... he was in that." He's proved himself as a fine thespian with turns in Se7en, Twelve Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and A River Runs Through It, and shown a knack for comedy in the Ocean's franchise. Being favoured by Hollywood heavyweights like David Fincher and Quentin Tarantino, Pitt's career is truly something to be proud of.
There is one film he's curiously never mentioned, however, and it just so happens to be his first featured role. 1989's Cutting Class is standard slasher film-fare with a healthy dose of black comedy thrown in, as students around Pitt's girlfriend Jill Schoelen begin to fall victim to a mysterious killer. Pitt plays antagonistic jock Dwight Ingles, obsessed with his car, his girl and sex.
Upon seeing Pitt in this film one is left with little wonder why he's never addressed his first starring role. The movie isn't great, it's tired by '80s standards, but Pitt's performance is just... bad. His attempts at being antagonistic and intimidating come off as stilted, he delivers his lines in a monotone way, and it seems laughable that we're supposed to suspect this man of butchering his classmates. He broods into the camera with a pout and is constantly flipping his hair in a "Look ma, I made it!" kind of way, it's all very cringe-worthy.
Thankfully, Cutting Class came and went with little notice, Pitt gained recognition with much stronger performances in To Young to Die and Thelma and Louise, honing his skills into the living-legend we know today. Still, we can't help but wonder if he ever thinks about Cutting Class every now and then?
