10 Horror Movies Critics Were WAY Too Harsh On

8. Jaws 2

Final Destination Terry
Universal Pictures

The director of Jaws 2, Jeannot Szwarc, had either never seen the original movie, or had gargantuan testicles. Either way, this man was brave enough, stupid enough or compensated enough to attempt to capture lightening in a bottle - again.

Jaws 2 follows the exponential law of Jaws sequels; Jaws 2 is twice as bad as Jaws, Jaws 3(D) is twice as bad as Jaws 2 and Jaws 4: The Revenge... let Michael Caine do the talking there: "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."

Empire Magazine wasn't much kinder: "Under the risk of stating the gaspingly obvious, Jeannot Szwarf is no Steven Spielberg. He has no feel for pace, no gift for invention, no eye for the subtle details of human interaction." While this statement is arguably correct, the second outing for Bruce The Shark, and certainly the last for Chief Brody, is not without its charms - and scares.

As the stranded teens drift out to sea, the shark launches a brutal attack on the flotilla. As teen-screamer Marge tries her best to get young Sean Brody back onto the capsized boat, Bruce hits her straight from behind, one mouthful and she's gone. John Williams excelled himself again, lending sonic terror to the proceedings, even if Szwarc bit off more than he could chew.
