6. Final Destination (2000)
New Line CinemaIf ever a film franchise prioritised silliness over scares, it's the Final Destination series. Devotees of the films watch mostly for the increasingly ludicrous death sequences. They know they're unlikely to be scared, but that doesn't matter. There's little reason to care about the characters, but a certain dark thrill to seeing how Death is able to catch up with them. They'd rather see someone fall off some gymnastics apparatus and snap in half. The first Final Destination film does feel like a genuine attempt at crafting a creepy horror movie. Whilst Tony Todd's mortician is legitimately scary, everything else is just a little too silly. The early deaths are harrowing, but things take a downward spiral when Amanda Detmer is hit by a bus and Stifler from American Pie gets his head cut off by a flying piece of metal. Final Destination is mainly on this list because of its sequels, but the first film certainly sets the general tone of silliness that prevents the franchise from ever being properly scary.
