9. The Jangsan Tiger Will Lure You To Your Death - The Mimic

The Mimic does exactly what it says on the tin for the most part, with this South Korean scare-fest depicting the story of local folklore with terrifying results. The film is based on stories of the Jangsan Tiger, a creature that dwells in a mountain of the same name, that can uncannily replicate the sound of a wailing woman to lure people to its location.

Whilst the movie roughly follows the beats of a family's grief at losing a child, then welcoming a new one into the family home in the form of a lost little girl, before questioning whether she is in fact a lost little girl at all or something else entirely - the legend itself is more straightforward.

It's said that the tiger lurks in the forests and calls people to their deaths with its mimicry ability, using both the call of a woman and the sounds of running water to draw everyone from good samaritans to thirsty wanderers to their doom. Covered in fine white fur and able to move at great speeds, it's a cryptid creature yet to have a fool proof sighting, but its man-eating myth remains spooky all the same.
