10 Horror Movies Inspired By Creepy Urban Legends

3. Bigfoot Is Real, And He's Horny - Willow Creek

The Red Spot Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Dark Sky Films

The legend of Bigfoot is way creepier than modern popularisation has given it credit for, but Willow Creek remembers. Willow Creek pinpoints exactly what's scary about a giant, hairy, ape-like man that lumbers through the forest and enacts it out in excruciatingly restrained detail - pitting a couple against the wilderness as they try and capture evidence of Bigfoot's existence. It's not just the legend of Bigfoot being real which serves as the central creepy urban legend though, but rather the implication of its ending that really hammers the fright home.

Spoilers for the movie will follow, as it ends with boyfriend Jim murdered by a Bigfoot and Kelly picked up and taken into the night, presumably to become a 'forest bride'. This is a phenomenon discussed by Bigfoot enthusiasts in which a human woman is taken to procreate with by Bigfoot, which would explain a missing, naked woman roaming through the woods right before Kelly is taken. She was its last 'bride'.

It's a cryptozoology myth that you have to dig out, but still a pretty horrifying one to ever imagine actually happening.
