Pet Sematary kicks off with Louis Creed and his family moving to a new house. After they settle in, they discover an animal graveyard nearby, which is supposedly haunted. According to legend, any creature buried in this cemetery will be resurrected.

Naturally, Louis disregards this concept as a silly superstition. But when his toddler, Gage, is killed by a truck, Louis places his body in Pet Sematary, hoping to revive him. Although he gets his wish, Gage is transformed into a murderous zombie.

Even if you're aware of the movie's premise, you have no comprehension what a rough ride this Stephen King adaption is. Gage is so pure and adorable, it's heart-wrenching to see him killed off in such a horrific manner. When his coffin falls over during the funeral, it sends a tingle down your spine. If you're an animal lover, every sequence revolving around the undead cat will unsettle you. The scene of Rachel Creed feeding her ghoulish sister isn't just scary, it's depressing.

But Pet Sematary leaves the biggest gut-punch for the end. After Gage kills his mother, Louise realises it was a mistake to bring him back. Left with no choice, Louis puts Gage out of his misery, forcing him to watch his son die for the second time.
