10 Horror Movies Starring Game Of Thrones Actors You Need To See
7. The Purge
The popularity that came from this title was entirely unexpected, and it goes to show how an interesting concept can carry a property into infamy. Despite this franchise's over-saturation, including four movies and a TV show, the original outing is still a thoroughly enjoyable and nihilistic look at society.
Horror films are often at their best when they have something to say, and this film certainly does that, with the concept of a world that allows all crime to be legal for one night being a terrifying, yet satirical prospect. Although it does come across as relatively cheap at times, the fundamental world-building established and the cultural significance it would go on to have is enough to prove why it's essential viewing for any fan of the horror genre.
Lena Headey - Cersei Lannister - takes on a significant part in this film, and she does an excellent job of keeping the intense premise grounded alongside the actors who play her family. Her performance genuinely helps to keep the film feeling realistic, which is important in a title that intends to make a point.
It's by no means perfect, as the clichés and attention on violence detract from the social/political points on display. But despite this, it's still a great example of an influential horror movie and is worth watching.
