10 Horror Movies That Brutally Punish Your Curiosities

1. The Evil Dead

The Houses October Built
New Line Cinema

Wouldn't the lives of Ash, Linda, Cheryl, Scott and Shelly have been that much easier if they'd just not decided to play the mysterious tape they found in the cellar of a spooky cabin in the woods?

That is very much a rhetorical question, for anyone who's seen The Evil Dead can testify to just how messed up things got for these five back in Sam Raimi's 1981 picture.

For Cheryl, she'd already encountered some odd goings-on by this point, with her hearing strange voices and having her hand possessed during the early moments of The Evil Dead. To some, that would've been a big enough warning sign to pack your bags, but things take a truly terrifying turn for our group when they discover a Sumerian version of the Book of the Dead and the aforementioned tape.

Once that tape - of course, full of ominous incantations - is played, this bunch of dimwits have gone and resurrected themselves a demonic entity.

In terms of the curiosity stakes, that's not the only questionable move of this movie. Not content with having her hand possessed, Cheryl later (stupidly) goes to investigate a noise in the woods; a move that sees her attacked and raped by possessed trees.
