Several entries in the Halloween series could be rightly accused of changing the franchise; Halloween II revealed that Michael Myers and Laurie Strode were siblings; the Michael and Laurie-less Halloween III: Season of the Which was intended to kickstart an anthology approach for the series; Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers introduced Michael's niece Jamie Lloyd; Halloween H20 ignored all movies bar the first two; and 2018's Halloween likewise ignored all movies bar John Carpenter's 1978 original.

Still, the film to get the nod here, is Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.

Up until this point, Michael was merely a murderous sort who looked to pile up bodies in and around Haddonfield. WIth Halloween 5, though, the Myers character was tweaked so that he now had a psychic bond with Jamie. And with the arrival of the mysterious Man in Black at the film's close, that brought with it the awful Cult of Thorn underbelly which would be expanded on in the dreadful, dire Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.

Curse is the movie which was so negatively received it caused the franchise to recalibrate entirely with Halloween H20, but that decline was originally put into motion with The Revenge of Michael Myers.
