10 Horror Movies That Chose The Wrong Survivor

Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil is a pretty fun B-movie if you don't take it too seriously, even if it ultimately doesn't feel much at all like the video games that inspired it.

Most egregiously, none of the games' central characters are featured, with the sole survivor protagonist instead being an entirely original character, Alice (Milla Jovovich).

Milla Jovovich does fine enough in the role, but it would've been an awesome bait-and-switch to have the more obviously Resident Evil-esque of the movie's characters, Rain (Michelle Rodriguez), survive.

Given that Rain is an Umbrella commando, she feels far more like an actual Resident Evil video game protagonist than Alice.

Plus, considering that the release of The Fast and the Furious made Michelle Rodriguez an overnight star shortly after Resident Evil began shooting, it probably would've made business sense to give her the lead role too.

All in all Alice defied the odds to carry the franchise through a staggering six installments, but it's fun to consider just how different it would've been with Rodriguez's more appealing, no-nonsense badass soldier at the helm.
