10 Horror Movies That Deserve A Remake (And Why)

1. Hellraiser

Sam Neill Event Horizon 2
New World Pictures

Perhaps no other horror franchise has been dealt as rotten a hand as Hellraiser. A series built on reputation, the series follows the otherworldly Cenobites, beings that pursue the Lament Configuration, a mysterious puzzle box that allows them passage into the mortal world, where their bizarre mix of pain and pleasure is unleashed upon unwitting participatnts.

Conceptualized by Clive Barker, the original two films are really the only ones worth seeing in the entirety of the series filmography, while the rest devolve into nearly self-parody. Pinhead and company truly deserve better.

As a band of demonic (or angelic?) BDSM monsters, the Cenobites work far better as inscrutable characters that humans cannot hope to understand, only to endure. Minimizing their physical presence in the film while maximizing their influence is the absolute best way go about making them scary again. And that should absolutely be the aim of this remake; to take the decades of squandered potential with some of the most influential designs in horror history and make them creatures to be dreaded rather than applauded.

Doing so will require a compelling human element akin to Kristy Cotton's arc across the first two films. With such a looming shadow like Pinhead, placing a character in danger that the audience cares about will make all the difference. Dividing the audiences allegiances between the horror icon's and a good central character would be the best way to put Pinhead back on his horror throne for good.

Lucky for us there's a new TV show coming from HBO...
