10 Horror Movies That Embarrassed Other Movies Released At The Same Time

2. The Craft EMBARRASSED Little Witches

Spooky, sexy, uber-cool teen witches were on the up in the '90s, but not all supernatural high-school movies are created equal.

A gamechanger from the outset, The Craft hit cinemas in May of '96 and took the young millennial audience by storm. Starring rising talents Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk and Neve Campbell, it delivered a dose of cheesy, sassy Catholic high-school drama with a twist; the eyeliner and choker crowd really are witches, really have powers, and are not afraid of getting their hands dirty to get what they want.

December of that year saw the arrival of a film that even the most casual viewer couldn't fail to recognise as facsimile. Trading on identical ideas, Little Witches brings together a group of Catholic schoolgirls who, umm, really are witches, really have powers, and... well, you get the picture.

While it's far from perfect, The Craft is widely regarded as a '90s teen horror classic, a style book for avid fashionistas, and a rite of passage for aspiring goths. Whereas Little Witches often feels like someone spliced together duff takes from The X-Files and Sleepover Club, lacking the technical execution, acting chops and originality to make it anything but a stain on the sole of The Craft's black leather thigh-highs.
