10 Horror Movies That Had No Right To Be This Good

1. Get Out

Strangers at night

Yes, that's right, Get Out. The modern classic that became one of the most successful scary movies in Oscar history, being nominated for best picture and even winning best original screenplay. The film that went on to change what horror could be and made the career of Jordan Peele. Despite all that, when you think about it, it really shouldn't be as good as it is.

No one could have predicted how great Get Out would be, and it's entirely down to the director. It's hard to think of a time when Jordan Peele wasn't respected as one of his generation's best horror movie makers (Nope is killing it even as you read this), but his reputation in 2017 was anything but that.

Peele was known for being a fantastic comedy guy, having great stints on MADtv and his duo of Key & Peele. While his comedy is genius, it's also goofy as all hell and utterly bonkers. Thus, when he suddenly released a horror movie, the last thing people expected was a meticulously detailed, densely packed and politically charged experience that would take horror to new heights.

Get Out is a passion project that, on paper, has no right to be as damn good as it is but deserves all the praise it gets and more.
