10 Horror Movies That Keep Tricking Viewers

Loosely inspired by Agatha Christie's And Then They Were None, Identity begins with 11 strangers forced to stay in an isolated motel during a storm. When residents wind up with knives in the chest and baseball bats rammed down the throat, the survivors realise there's a killer amongst them.

While this is going on, there's a parallel story surrounding psychiatrist Dr. Malick and mentally ill murderer Malcolm Rivers. Initially, it's hard to tell how the two plots are connected, though over time it's revealed the events in the motel are a fantasy concocted by Malcolm. According to Malick, at least one of the identities harbours malicious intent, compelling Malcolm to kill when consumed by that personality. If that identity is quashed, he should be free of his bloodlust forever.

Even though this is a big bombshell, it's far from the last. When the killer in the motel is exposed, it's a total shocker, especially since there were several clues hinting at the person's true identity (no pun intended).

Just as it looks like everything is wrapping up, another epiphany is thrown in at the eleventh hour, with this twist retconning the story so spectacularly that a rewatch is necessary to appreciate it.
