10 Horror Movies That Left Out The True Horrific Ending

3. Open Water

The disappearances of Thomas and Eileen Lonergan in 1998 served as the blueprints for the 2003 horror movie Open Water.

In the film, two divers end up separated from their group and stranded out at sea with no food and a pack of hungry sharks circling them. When a boat finally arrives to collect them, they've vanished, never to be seen again.

This is pretty true to life as neither of the Lonergans have ever been found. What's missing from the film though is the utter hell that their families have been put through the in the years since this tragedy.

It was originally suggested that the couple faked their own deaths for financial gain, which is a horrible thing to say to a grieving family. Then, over the next few years, pieces of the pair's diving equipment kept washing up on shore. This included a note from Thomas begging someone to come rescue him and his wife.

Reading what amounts to the final words of a loved one is a truly unthinkable pain, one matched only by the thought of never knowing what actually happened to the Lonergans.
