10 Horror Movies That Lose You In The First 60 Seconds

5. The Fly II

Urban Legends: Bloody Mary
Fox

David Cronenberg's The Fly is one of the most memorable horrors of the 1980s, with this '86 adaptation of George Langelaan's 1957 short story famed for its (literally, at times) jaw-dropping practical SFX work.

By the end of that film, Jeff Goldblum's Seth Brundle had become a deformed fly/human hybrid who was mercifully put out of his misery by his pregnant girlfriend Veronica (Geena Davis) and a shotgun.

When The Fly II rolled around three years later, those expecting to see Veronica taking centre-stage as a mother raising her potentially fly-infused offspring, were left disappointed. While Geena Davis - much like David Cronenberg and Jeff Goldblum - didn't return for this sequel, the Veronica character did. Unfortunately, the character (as played by Saffron Henderson) was killed in the opening moments as she gave birth to her and Seth's baby boy.

With that move, The Fly II pretty much severed all emotional connection to its predecessor, essentially opting to simply regurgitate the story of the first film, just with Eric Stoltz's Martin Brundle replacing his father Seth.

One fun slice of trivia for The Fly II, though, is that Saffron Henderson also played rocker J.J. - who was brutalised with her own Flying V guitar - in the cheesetastic Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan in that same year.
