10 Horror Movies That Mock You For Paying Attention
6. The Evidence Locker Teases A Horror Icon Battle Royale - Bride Of Chucky
There's a time-honoured tradition of classic horror franchises paying homage to one another by teasing the possibility that these characters exist within the same twisted universe and could even cross paths one day.
For example, Freddy Krueger's razor-sharp glove can be seen hanging up in Ash's (Bruce Campbell) cabin in Evil Dead II, while Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday features both The Evil Dead's Necronomicon and Krueger's glove taking hold of Jason Voorhees' mask.
Fans had long hoped that these nods might one day lead to a "versus" movie between all the duelling horror icons, something Bride of Chucky took to the level of parodic provocation in its very first scene.
As a police officer heads to an evidence locker to retrieve the Chucky (Brad Dourif) doll, we're given brief glimpses of paraphernalia belonging to the genre's most iconic mainstays: Michael Myers and Jason's masks, Freddy's glove, and even Leatherface's chainsaw.
The implication was clear: the Child's Play franchise exists within the same world as Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
While this led many excited fans to ponder the horror icon battle royale which could be on the horizon, it sadly never materialised.
This was likely because, upon closer inspection, the props were all clearly copyright-dodging knock-offs, and it's unlikely any substantial legal clearances were obtained for their inclusion.
In a cute outcome, though, Bride of Chucky director Ronny Yu did in fact go on to helm Freddy vs. Jason five years later, so it wasn't a completely callous troll.
