10 Horror Movies That Nearly Killed Actors

Horror movies are awesome, but they're not worth dying over!

Many people think that the movie industry is a wonderful Shangri-La where everyone lives their best artistic lives, and nothing ever goes wrong. But, naturally, that couldn't be farther from the truth.

Sure, the world of cinema can be a magical place, but it's also full of egos, troubles, disagreements and, in some extreme cases, even death. Whether it is because of faulty equipment, freak mishaps or directors asking for too much, death and cinema have often gone hand in hand; risk assessments be damned.

If there's one genre that feels painfully ironic when it comes to this side of filmmaking, it has to be horror. Scary movies are in the business of convincing you that their characters are constantly on the brink of death, which is why it is no surprise that there have been many near-fatal mishaps on the sets of some big horror flicks.

The following actors, thankfully, made it out of these scrapes alive. However, it really was touch and go for them, as all of these accidents came frighteningly close to making the Oscars in memoriam tribute.

10. Ellie Cornell - Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers

The words Michael Myers and Halloween, when combined, always bring about a sense of mortal peril. Besides the legendary slasher foe's on-screen antics, death has had a tight grip behind the scenes of the franchise for some time, and that's not a reference to the demise of the series' quality.

Halloween 4 should have been a return to form for the franchise, as it brought back the iconic series antagonist (as you can probably guess from the title). It also featured the debut of a new character in the form of Rachel Carruthers, played by Ellie Cornell. But, poor Cornell came close to becoming a real-life horror victim.

During the filming of the rooftop chase scene, Cornell slid down the rooftop in what should have been a slightly risky but perfectly innocent stunt. However, she was caught by a protruding nail that cut into her stomach, requiring her to go to the hospital for stitches and bandages.

Like an absolute trooper, she returned and finished filming, proving that the actors in Halloween movies are tough as nails (too soon?). Still, even an extra couple of centimetres on that loose spike could have been the difference between life and death.
