10 Horror Movies That Only Make Sense At The End

1. Carnival of Souls

1962's classic horror Carnival of Souls centers around Mary Henry (Candace Hilligoss), a woman who miraculously survives a car crash into a river, even while having no memory of how she got to safety.

Mary then moves to Salt Lake City, where she begins to encounter terrifying ghoulish visions and finds herself inexplicably drawn to the nearby pavilion of an eerie, abandoned carnival.

As Mary's apparent hysteria intensifies, the climax finally reveals the grim truth - Mary actually died in the initial car crash, with her body being shown in the front seat when the car is finally fished out of the river.

And so, the surreal, nightmarish events of the movie have effectively been Mary's attempts to resist joining the dead in what lies beyond.

Though the "the protagonist was dead the whole time, actually" shtick has been played out for years, back in 1962 it hadn't yet been done to death, and so made one hell of an impact.
