10 Horror Movies That Only Make Sense At The End

3. Saint Maud

Like all great psychological horror films, Saint Maud teeters on a razor's edge as it leaves the audience to question the precise nature of its reality until the very end.

Has nurse Maud (Morfydd Clark) simply been driven insane by a traumatic past incident in which she failed to save a patient, or are her increasingly concerning visions a genuine test of faith from God?

After murdering her apparently demonic patient Amanda (Jennifer Ehle), the film's final scene has Maud head to the nearby beach where the truth is finally revealed.

Maud douses herself in acetone and sets herself on fire, at which point she appears to sprout angel wings as everyone else on the beach suddenly bows down in awe of her.

But in the film's final second, director Rose Glass smash-cuts to the nauseating reality of the situation - Maud screaming in agony as she burns to death. Yep, that'll clear it up alright.
