10 Horror Movies That Pissed You Off Straight Away
1. Alien 3 (1992)
David Fincher always had a tough act to follow when making Alien 3. Arriving after Ridley Scott and James Cameron, into an established franchise, and as a first-time director, the cards were already stacked against him - and that’s without even counting the studio’s (Fox) relentless meddling.
Picking up where Aliens left off, Fincher dispatches two of that film’s three survivors - Dwayne Hicks (Michael Biehn) and Newt (Rebecca Jorden) - right during the opening credits. Now, partly this was because Fincher wanted to make this film his own, but really it was because Jorden had refused to return and it had been so many years with so many different scripts that Biehn was harder to get, not that the studio really tried.
In any case, this scrubbed all the good will of the previous film and left fans who were rooting for the rag-tag loose family of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), Hicks and Newt high and dry. After they had just gone to great lengths to survive and escape the xenomorphs, it was totally undercut by their deaths in transit; no dialogue, no screen time, no chance.
And we're still raging about it today.
