Like many of the classic slashers, the Friday the 13th franchise enjoyed a rocky and improbable life on screen, where soap opera rules applied to continuity and character deaths. But surely its worst deed was in the film that should never have been, Part VI: Jason Lives.

Tommy Jarvis (Thom Matthews), successfully killed series antagonist Jason (CJ Graham/Ted White/etc.) as a child, in the appropriately titled The Final Chapter, and yet with one whole film without the man in the mask (A New Beginning), the creative team felt they needed him back to sustain the series.

So, yes, we knew a film called Jason Lives was not exactly going to exclude its titular character, but it's the very fact that they have the guy who killed him - Tommy – bring him back that gets our goat. Tommy exhumes Jason’s corpse (for somewhat unspecified, plot-related reasons - something to do with putting his past behind him by, uhh, digging up the rotten corpse of the killer he has nightmares about...), impales it with a big metal rod during a lightning storm, and voila the big guy is up and running. Absolutely unacceptable, if you ask us.
