10 Horror Movies That Sound Terrible (But Are Actually Great)
7. Freddy Vs. Jason
By the early 2000s, everyone was pretty sick of Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Both franchises had descended into absurdity over the course of way too many sequels, so how could Freddy vs. Jason possibly be good, a movie that combined two tired characters years after they had both peaked?
The final product was actually a lot less dumb than you'd expect, and for horror fans, it was a dream come true to see these iconic slashers sharing the same film. Surprisingly, it's a lot better and less goofy than the previous few entries of both franchises. In Freddy vs. Jason, Freddy has lost his powers because nobody is scared of him anymore, kind of like how audiences didn't really find him as terrifying after all the campy sequels. He manipulates Jason into killing a bunch of teenagers to get them scared again so he feed on their fear can come back.
It's a clever way to get both characters together and comment on their history, and the fight sequences certainly lived up to the years of hype. They're violent and thrilling, playing on both villains' weaknesses, i.e. having Freddy's weakness be fire and Jason's be water. While the human leads might be kind of a waste, Freddy vs. Jason has a lot more to offer slasher fans than you'd expect.
