2008 Swedish horror movie Let the Right One In was remade in 2010 as Let Me In starring Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloë Grace Moretz, presumably because the production company didn't think Americans could handle a movie with a five-word title.

The original film stars Kåre Hedebrant as Oskar, a bullied schoolboy who befriends a young girl named Eli (Lina Leandersson). Well, she seems young, but she's actually a vampire, so who knows how old she actually is.

Oskar and Eli mostly communicate via the thin wall between their two bedrooms, tapping messages to each other in a secret code. This sweet, childlike detail plays a key role in the movie's end, helping to wash out the taste of a particularly brutal penultimate scene.

Eli ends up saving Oskar from his bullies, killing them all in bloody fashion to prevent them from drowning the poor lad in a swimming pool.

After realising they're not safe anymore, Oskar and Eli board a train towards a new life, with Eli hiding from the sunlight in a box. The film ends with Eli tapping the word "kiss" through the box's lid and a delighted Oskar replying with the same thing. Aww.
