10 Horror Movies That Take Themselves Way Too Seriously
6. Birdemic: Shock And Terror
2010's Birdemic: Shock and Terror is regarded by many critics to be one of the worst films ever made.
Martin Nguyen's picture is exactly what it says on the tin. A pair of young lovers see their town attacked by hordes of acid-spewing CGI birds, having been genetically warped by the effects of global warming.
Birdemic is calamitous in nearly every facet of filmmaking. The awkward dialogue and cringeworthy performances lend to a distinctly amateur vibe that only gets worse as the story progresses. The visual effects are so abysmal that they have to be seen to be believed - a mess of cartoonish drivel literally pasted on top of the movie's proceedings.
Ultimately, it's the alleged catalyst behind Birdemic that highlights just how excessively serious Nguyen takes his picture. In addition to attempting to convey anti-war messages, Shock and Terror was purportedly inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (no surprise there) and Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth.
