10 Horror Movies That Take Themselves Way Too Seriously

M. Night Shyamalan's 2021 outing Old features a pharmaceutical company that tests its products on unsuspecting guests at a leisure resort.

The shady corporation utilizes the help of a nearby beach that ages anybody visiting at a rate of one year every thirty minutes. This allows them to conduct medical testing that would normally take a lifetime in a matter of days, with predictably nightmarish results for the human guinea pigs.

Regrettably, there's a far more appropriate three-letter title for this piece of cinema - bad. Despite cultivating a deathly serious tone to reflect the horrors unfolding onscreen, all of it is undermined by robotic performances and the dismal dialogue.

Despite Old's over-the-top premise, the gallows humor necessary for it to succeed is nowhere to be found. Ironically, it therefore comes as little surprise that Shyamalan's movie turns out to be one big unintentional joke.
