10 Horror Movies That Teased A Sequel Which Never Happened

3. Dracula Untold

Though The Mummy is always referenced as both the beginning and the end of Universal's Dark Universe, that is technically not strictly true. The franchise was supposed to kick off with Dracula Untold in 2015, with Luke Evans' Vlad the Impaler set to potentially make a cameo appearance along side Tom Cruise two years later.

However, after the film underperformed, it was quietly dropped from the shared universe altogether, apparently in the hopes that The Mummy would allow for a fresh and more successful base from which to launch from.

The story was yet another cinematic take on the character of Dracula, this time taking place in the 15th century, based around Vlad the Impaler played by Luke Evans. He was transformed into a vampire by the Master Vampire (Charles Dance) in order to protect his family, in a story that simply didn't resonate with audiences. The 26% Rotten Tomatoes score is evidence enough of that.

The final scene of the film saw Vlad and his wife, Mina (Sarah Gadon), in the modern day being stalked by the Master Vampire in a suit and tie, something that could have easily either led to a sequel or tied to the wider Dark Universe, neither of which ultimately happened.
