10 Horror Movies Where Pranks Brutally Backfired
2. Hatchet Series (2006 To 2017)
The Hatchet series is a throwback to gritty, early '80s VHS slashers, made by people who obviously grew up on that kind of horror film and wanted to pay homage to them thirty years later.
Victor Crowley, played by Kane Hodder, best known as Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th 7 through 10, is a monstrous, undead creature who roams a swamp in Louisiana, killing anyone who crosses his path in some spectacularly gory ways.
Much like Jason, Victor is a victim of circumstance. He was born deformed and with a rare disease, (which we would find out in Hatchet 2 was the result of a voodoo curse), which caused him to be endlessly mocked by other kids.
One night, a group of said kids found Victor's house and threw several fireworks into it, starting a fire that trapped Victor. Victor's father Thomas, while attempting to get his son out of the burning house, accidentally hits Victor in the face with a hatchet, 'killing' him. Thomas eventually died from loneliness and the despair of having apparently killed his son, and Victor now takes revenge for both father and son on any unfortunate souls who wander into his swamp.
In a neat setup, Hatchets 1, 2, and 3 all run back to back, immediately picking up where the previous left off, and the series features a list of legendary '80s and '90s horror actors.
