10 Horror Movies Where The Characters Are All Complete Strangers
3. The Divide (2011)
The apocalypse is no laughing matter, which is why horror tends to gravitate towards it like a moth to a flame or a post-apocalyptic scavenger to a bunker. The Divide is a movie that indulges in the nihilism of the end of civilization, but it goes one step further by showing how monstrous people can become once societal structures break down.
The Divide takes place in a version of New York that has been ravaged by nuclear attacks. A group of survivors seek refuge in the basement of their apartment complex and attempt to stay things out. But, of course, as supplies dwindle and radiation sickness starts to creep in, this harmony devolves into a violent mess.
This movie pulls no punches regarding character degradation, as the ensemble cast turns into a compilation of nightmarish villains towards the end. While audiences can rely on the leading girl Eva for a sense of reason, almost everyone else lets their toxic emotions get the better of them, leading to a gritty and uncomfortable viewing experience.
If you ever get stuck in a bunker, it's best to do it with people you can trust.
