10 Horror Movies Where The Final Girl Should Have Died
3. Kate Ward - Army Of The Dead
In Army of the Dead, mercenary Scott Ward and his squad are tasked with pulling off a heist in a zombie-packed city. By the end of the mission, every member of Scott's group has been killed. Realising he's been bitten by a zombie, Scott convinces his daughter, Kate, to put him out of his misery.
From a narrative perspective, it makes sense why Kate was the sole survivor, since the ending is more hard-hitting if she's the person who ends her dad's life.
But this decision doesn't work for one reason - Everyone hates Kate. Passionately.
Although Kate wasn't a part of Scott's mission, she weasels her way in, hoping to find her friend Geeta, who's trapped in the quarantine zone. But because Kate has no practical skills and pushes the squad to deviate her mission, she's screws everything up.
Even though she does rescue Geeta, she dies immediately after, making Kate all the more pointless. She's completely smeared in plot armour, since Kate keeps walking away unscathed from the most unsurvivable situations, including a freaking helicopter crash.
What's worse is Kate doesn't survive out of plot-convenience, since she doesn't push the narrative. She's the sole survivor simply because somebody had to be.
