10 Horror Movies Where The Final Girl Should Have Died
2. Julie James - I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What You Did Last Summer opens with Julie and her friends driving over a pedestrian, seemingly killing him. After they dispose of the body, the group vow never to speak about the incident ever again.
One year later, Julie discovers someone is targeting and murdering her friends. In the third act, Julie's tormentor is seemingly killed, allowing her to live happily ever after.
Or so it seems. In the final scene, Julie is about to enter the shower, when she notices the words "I STILL KNOW" have been written on the shower door. With no warning, the killer bursts through the glass, seemingly killing Julie.
Or so it seems... again. In the sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Julie mentions this encounter never really happened since it was all a dream.
Even though this is the laziest explanation possible to retcon the previous film's ending, the sequel could get away with it if it was entertaining.
Unfortunately, this unwanted follow-up is derivative, cheesy, and unscary. Because I Still Know What You Did Last Summer had nothing new to offer, the filmmakers shouldn't have bothered, meaning Julie would've stayed dead.
