10 Horror Movies Where The Last Scene Is The Best
9. Saw
Saw has devolved into somewhat of a caricature of what made the original such a smash-hit.
Somewhere along the way, the intricate nihilism that laid the foundations for success was abandoned, cast aside in favour of upping the levels of brutality and bloodshed associated with the franchise's legendary traps.
Fortunately, said nihilism is on full, unabashed display in 2004's beloved original, and never more so than in its closing sequence. Saw's conclusion features one of horror's most famous and celebrated twists, with the now immortal reveal that John Kramer has been one step ahead of his prey all along.
Saw follows the unenviable plight of Adam and Lawrence, two strangers who awaken to find themselves chained to a pipe, with the only method of escape being the delightful option of sawing their own legs off. A tape discovered on the body of a suicide victim in the same dilapidated room as the pair lays the truth at the heart of their predicament clear - they have been abducted by the Jigsaw Killer, who seeks to test their will to survive through an assortment of twisted "games".
The nail-biting final scene sees the purported suicide victim rise from the dead, unmasked as none other than Jigsaw himself in one of the most deviously nasty twists in cinematic history. Adam has enough time to scream in abject despair, before being sealed inside the room to die in the pitch blackness.
Game over and a magnificently wicked final bow for the ages.
