10 Horror Movies Where The Reshoots Were Obvious
7. Hellraiser: Bloodline
You needn't know much about Hellraiser: Bloodline, the fourth film in the series, to appreciate that its production was an abject nightmare.
Before shooting even began, Miramax asked for numerous changes to the script, including the earlier introduction of Pinhead (Doug Bradley) and the addition of a frame narrative, but once shooting was completed with these requested changes, they still weren't happy.
The studio planned six weeks of reshoots to basically re-shape the movie into a more generic horror film while stripping away vital character development for both Angelique (Valentina Vargas) and Paul Merchant (Bruce Ramsay).
Original director Kevin Yagher found the reshoots egregious enough that he refused to film them and walked away from the production, even insisting that he be granted the infamous "Alan Smithee" directing credit because the project had strayed too far from his own vision.
By the time the reshoots were completed, they ended up spanning an incredible twelve weeks, yet ironically resulted in a final cut 25 minutes shorter than Yagher's original version.
Between the utterly frantic pace of the movie and its unearned "happy" ending in which Pinhead appears to finally be defeated for good - spoiler: he wasn't - it feels like a fragmented product of studio interference in its very bones.
This was confirmed by reviews of a leaked bootleg workprint of Bloodline, which contains numerous more nuanced character development scenes and just generally feels like a more cohesive piece of work.
