10 Horror Movies Where You Don't See The Monster

5. Rosemary's Baby

The Cabin In The Woods
Paramount Pictures

Roman Polanski's psychological horror classic follows the titular woman (Mia Farrow) as she quite literally deals with the pregnancy from hell, given that she's raped by Satan half-way through the film and then gives birth to his spawn at the climax.

Now, it's fair to say that we do briefly catch a few glimpses of Satan's piercing eyes in the film, but Polanski makes the curious decision to never once show us arguably the more dangerous long-term threat - his and Rosemary's son, Adrian.

Rosemary nevertheless recoils at Adrian's eyes, which are said to be like her father's, while another member of the Satanic coven implies that Adrian's hands and feet are mutated in some form, most likely resembling clubs or hooves.

That Polanski never forces a janky prosthetic baby upon viewers is one of his many triumphs here, letting audiences think for themselves what the spawn of the Devil would actually look like. Brilliant.
