10 Horror Movies Where You Never See The Villain
1. Willow Creek
And finally, we have Bobcat Goldthwait's 2013 found footage film Willow Creek, starring Alexie Gilmore and Bryce Johnson as a couple who head into the titular California woods in the hope of capturing Bigfoot on film.
Though they don't succeed in that goal, that was most definitely the best route for Goldthwait to go considering the movie's obviously minuscule budget. But that doesn't mean Bigfoot doesn't make its presence felt regardless.
The filmmaker instead evokes tremendous amounts of unease through the convincing performances of Gilmore and Johnson, and also some brilliantly eerie sound effects.
The film's center-piece isn't some laboured chase involving the hairy urban legend, but rather an 18-minute single-take scene set inside a tent, as the two leads listen for increasingly unsettling activity taking place outside their tent.
Even during the film's slightly more energetic climax, we never catch sight of Bigfoot, which is undeniably preferable to a dime store ape suit as was the probable alterantive.
