10 Horror Movies Where You Never See The Villain

9. The Entity

The Entity Barbara Hershey
Fox

Sidney J. Furie's 1982 cult horror classic stars Barbara Hershey as Carla Moran, a single mother who is violently raped by an invisible attacker and spends the rest of the movie trying to convince those around her, namely medical professionals, that she isn't crazy.

In many ways a spiritual precursor to this year's surprisingly impressive remake of The Invisible Man, it does one better by never daring to reveal the precise nature of the entity haunting Carla, in turn delivering a brutal commentary on the lingering spectre of abuse in the most literal sense.

The frank brutality of its subject matter means it's absolutely not for everyone, but on its own merits The Entity is brilliantly unsettling, topped by a spectacular performance from Hershey in the lead role.
