It’s going out on a limb to call this Z-grade exploitation classic the first movie to rip off Scooby Doo, but consider the storyline: when a Yeti is sighted in upstate New York, a group of teenagers in a van with flower decals on the side set off to solve the mystery.

The kids are a square-jawed jock, a red-haired damsel in distress, a practical joker and a short, unattractive girl in glasses. Every time they enter a creepy building, they say, “This place is creepy!” and when they find themselves trapped, they say, “We’re trapped!” Ignoring a Dire Warning from a stranger, they arrive at an isolated cabin run by a Creepy Housekeeper and are chased by a silly-looking monster, causing the short girl to fall and lose her glasses.

After setting a trap that fails, the creature is revealed to be an authority figure in a costume, who was dressing up as a Yeti to draw attention away from nefarious activity. In this case, said activity turns out to be cannibalism, and in a downbeat ending, the kids are served as the main course. Bon Appetit!
