10 Horror Movies With Terrible Concepts But AMAZING Execution
1. Titane
And finally, Julia Ducournau's Palme d'Or-winning Titane follows Alexia (Agathe Rousselle), a serial killer who has an erotic fixation with cars due to a car crash that gravely injured her in childhood.
To be blunt, it's the movie where a woman shags and is ultimately impregnated by a car, and that's how it will always be remembered. But Ducournau refuses to live down to the most gutter-brained expectations of that setup, and instead crafts a staggeringly provocative psychosexual horror film you won't ever forget.
In her acting debut, Agathe Rousselle gives a phenomenal performance, while Alexia's journey is considerably more emotional and character-driven than the hand-wringing over its wild premise would suggest.
As with other examples on this list, it isn't difficult to imagine a much, much worse version of this movie - one which is propelled forward by nothing more than empty shock value - but Ducournau instead delivers the most strangely tender and thoughtful film about a woman boning a motor vehicle you'll probably ever see.
