10 Horror Movies With The WORST Killer Reveals

3. Saw IV - Mark Hoffman

One of the big reasons for the Saw franchise's decline in quality during the latter instalments (aside from Saw VI) of its original run was Detective Mark Hoffman, one of Jigsaw's apprentices, being the main villain and running Jigsaw's games. With both Jigsaw and Amanda dead after the third film, Hoffman was left to fill the role of key antagonist all on his own and he simply wasn't up to that task.

Mark Hoffman is such an uninteresting character compared to Jigsaw and Amanda; where both those characters had real shade and depth, Hoffman is just a gruff, straight-forwardly evil bore with little personality.

Additionally, actor Costas Mandylor didn't quite have the acting chops to make Hoffman particularly compelling and basically portrayed the character with one facial expression for four films.

With a different, more interesting character as the lead villain, perhaps those later Saw films would've been better. Now that the franchise has returned, hopefully Hoffman's death at the end of Saw 3D won't be undone.
