10 Horror Movies You Must Never Pause
8. "Annie" Hits Her Head - Misery
Rob Reiner's Oscar-winning adaptation of Stephen King's Misery - the only King movie to ever win an Oscar, in fact - largely eschews outrageous effects in favour of more pared-down suspense, but there's one single moment where a practical effect just doesn't work at all.
In the climactic fight between author Paul Sheldon (James Caan) and Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates), Sheldon manages to trip Wilkes over his legs, causing her to fall and knock herself unconscious on his typewriter.
But for the shot where Annie hits her head, Bates has been replaced with an hilariously obvious dummy, which in addition to looking nothing like the actress also appears to have had a brown wig awkwardly stapled on top of its head.
It's thankfully so fleeting that most viewers would never notice, but absolutely terrible if you stop to take a peek.
