10 Horror Short Villains Who Deserve Their Own Movies

7. The Birch

This one involves witchcraft! And who doesn't love a bit of good old fashioned witchcraft, right guys?! It's the damn hallmark of good cinema!

We're maybe cheating a bit with this one because the titular character of The Birch is actually introduced to us as a guardian for a downtrodden, bullied young boy. However, it's not exactly a massive stretch of the imagination to assume that this seemingly benevolent tree guardian could easily become villainous and bloodthirsty. Come on, man, the kid summoned the thing via a creepy voodoo ritual. Name a single time that ever went the way you expected?

Beyond just the narrative beats though, the creature just looks awesome. It's gigantic, looming figure is menacing as hell, backing up our claim that it might not be as friendly as first suggested, and the looping, twisted knots of wood that make up its body look incredible. Aesthetically speaking it even screams of something Guillermo del Toro would dream up of. Hmmmm, speaking of: hey, Guillermo, do another Mama and get The Birch onto the big screen.

Johnny sat by the fire, idly swirling his brandy, flicking through the pages of War and Peace, wondering whether it was pretentious to write his bio in the third person.
