10 Hotly Anticipated SXSW Movies You Need To See In 2014

2. Bad Words

Bad Words, a subversive comedy about a spelling bee loser who discovers a loophole in the competition and sets out to seek his revenge as an adult, marks Jason Bateman's feature directorial debut, which should be enough to give the film a shot. That it also stars Kathryn "I'm-awesome-in-every-comedy-ever" Hahn and the lovely Allison Janney is the icing on the cake. With a script containing "every expletive imaginable" but still enough heart to keep general audiences engaged, Bad Words is poised to be a decent launchpad for Bateman's future directorial endeavours. Bateman, star of fan-salvaged Arrested Development and films like Juno, Hancock, and Horrible Bosses, said of his transition into the director's chair "I started looking at some scripts, three in particular and this was one of them, and I said, 'This seems like the kind of scope that I would be responsible to take on and this is the kind of comedic tone I think I could navigate well.'" Let's hope audiences agree. A handful of critics have been derisive of the comedy, which hits American wide release March 28th, but most agree that this raunchy flick is "deliciously entertaining."
