10 Huge Movie Franchises That Don't Have A 5 Star Entry

10. The Twilight Saga (2008-2012)

Despite spanning five movies and grossing over $3.3bn at the box office, The Twilight Saga failed to even produce a good movie never mind a classic one. The series created a huge cultural phenomenon but if you weren't a fan of the source material then it definitely wasn't for you. Thanks almost entirely to the intended target audience, the franchise became the first series of young adult literary adaptations outside of Harry Potter to catch on at the box office. Given the reputation of Twilight amongst a large proportion of cinema audiences, its doubtful that the franchise gathered many casual fans given the individual shortcomings of each entry. Even though it made instant stars of the three central actors and generated billions of dollars in revenue, the franchise was characterized by its wooden acting, awful dialogue, two-dimensional characters and tendency to take the often-ridiculous source material far too seriously. None of the five movies received much in the way of critical praise, with Breaking Dawn - Part 1 singled out in particular as the worst entry in the franchise. For what its worth, it was talented director David Slade that delivered the best movie in the franchise, with his efforts on third entry Eclipse marking both the most entertaining and accessible movie in the entire series.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
