10 Huge Recurring Problems The MCU Needs To Solve
9. The Villain Problem Remains
One of the oldest and most consistently-leveled accusations towards the MCU is that the villains just aren't all that interesting, and it's an entirely valid one. With the obvious exception of Loki, it is an issue that Marvel have frequently repeated over the years, and one they show no immediate signs of addressing. They seem to be operating on the basis that the heroes sell the movies, not the villains, and audiences will see them either way. To be fair, they've been right so far.
However, that doesn't change the fact that the studio's approach to bad guys is lazy at best. How many Marvel heroes have battled a villain that represents the version of themselves they would be had they chosen the wrong path? Iron Man (three times), Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Gamora, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and even the upcoming Black Panther.
Thanos, who will have been teased as the MCU's end-of-game boss for over half a decade by the time Infinity War hits theaters, has done precisely f**k all to establish himself as such, we're just supposed to take it as gospel.
As the biggest brand in the business, Marvel should always be looking at ways to improve their product and stay ahead of the competition. As one of the main criticisms of the MCU ever since Phase One, the lack of memorable villains needs to be addressed to prevent the standalone adventures growing stale.
