Sixteen movies in and seemingly unwilling to alter the status quo, a sense of familiarity is starting to set in on the MCU as so much of the studio's output has hit the same narrative and visual beats. Setting the movies in different locations can mask the issue, but there have been definite signs of repetition appearing in Marvel Studios' output.
Fake-out deaths, heroes dealing with daddy issues, villains that are basically the evil version of the protagonist and multiple variations on the cop-out 'blue sky beam' have been noticeable features of many MCU movies, and with another seven releases to come over the next two years alone the studio's tried-and-trusted methods of telling their stories could need some freshening up.
