10 Hugely Disappointing Recent Horror Movies

5. The Watchers

Time Cut Bad
Warner Bros.

From one Shyamalan to another now with the directorial debut of M. Night's daughter Ishana Night.

Debates about "nepo babies" aside, it was certainly interesting to see how far the apple would fall from the cinematic tree, especially with The Watchers touting a rock-solid premise and strong cast.

Dakota Fanning stars as Mina, an American woman who ends up trapped in a forest in Ireland, where she and three strangers are preyed upon by mysterious creatures.

Yet despite its decent atmosphere and capable performances from Fanning, Georgina Campbell, and Olwen Fouéré, there's no getting around it - The Watchers is a fundamentally boring piece of work.

Packed to the gills with ropey exposition and failing to build to a satisfying climax - both Shyamalan family traditions, it seems - this is a hugely disappointing squandering of an appealing concept.
