Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 is the highest grossing documentary of all time. The production cost only $6 million to make and went on to gross a staggering $222.4 million worldwide.

The documentary, which was extremely critical of the Presidency of George W. Bush, was also critically lauded, with many considering it to be Moore's best work.

It is surprising then that the film apparently turned no profit.

This came to light in 2011 when Moore sued the now disgraced Weinstein brothers over his lack of profits from the film. Moore claimed that the brothers used Hollywood accounting to get away with not paying him $2.7 million.

The lawsuit outlined that the brothers deducted marketing costs that were never spent from the gross, along with taking money from the gross to pay back expensive trips they made on a private jet.

The brothers did shoot back at Moore, claiming that he had made $20 million of off the film and was just trying to get even more.

Despite the claims on both sides, the sinister ghoul of Hollywood accounting can been seen leering its head, taking money from the gross that was never even spent.
