10 Hyped 2017 Movies That Will Definitely Disappoint You

5. It

Skull Island
New Line Cinema

The Hype: An up-to-date adaptation of Stephen King's terrifying novel, which should prove to be a major technological upgrade from the campy 1990 TV mini-series.

Why It Will Disappoint: The real sticking point here is that New Line Cinema wouldn't let Cary Fukunaga make his much-hyped version of the movie, and so this basically feels like settling for second-best.

Director Andrés Muschietti (Mama) isn't exactly a sturdy choice, and the appointment of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise is a major question mark. Above all else, it's going to be an immense challenge to top Tim Curry's mesmerising interpretation of the character, and the best thing Skarsgård can really do is just go for something totally different.

It's a "damned if you, damned if you don't" situation, and one the film will be unlikely to weather with fans of the source material and the original movie, as well as younger viewers seeing Pennywise for the very first time.
