3. Batman: Year One: Gordon Vs. Flass
People often forget that not all of the crime-fighters in the batman comics wear masks. Jim Gordon is a very important member of the Batman team, not to mention the only one aside from Bats to appear in Detective Comics #27. The other thing people tend to forget is that Jim Gordon is totally badass. Batman: Year One tells the twin stories of Gordon and Bruce Wayne as each begin their journeys as crime fighters in Gotham. While most of Batman's side of the tale was used in Batman Begins, much of Gordon's storyline was left out. The one good cop in a city full of corruption, Gordon is harassed, threatened, and beaten in attempts to get him to play by the Gotham PD rules. But Gordon is not one to go down without a fight. In this iconic scene, Gordon goes up against his main tormentor, Detective Flass. Gordon's dialogue says it all: Hes big. Green Beret training. Its been fifteen years since I had to take out a Green Beret. Even so he deserves a handicap. He proceeds to take Flass down with enough skill to keep the man out of the hospital. It's no wonder Gordon is the man Batman decided to trust.
